2010 Subaru Outback: Cargo Carrier & Hitch

I decided we needed a cargo carrier for the Outback, not that the Outback doesn’t have enough space, it has plenty, I just wanted one. My thought was it would make it easier to haul “baby stuff” for weekend trips, along with luggage, Gordie, and of course Elena…well, Gordie and Elena would go in the Outback, not the cargo carrier, but you know what I mean. I also had a trailer hitch installed, now we can haul the whole family and a place to stay…we have become “Those People”.

Parking Perfection

This weekend was Gillian’s baby shower. Chris and Kathleen also came down for the weekend. The ladies did their baby shower thing, me and the men (Chris, Retzer, Santi, and Dustin) hung out at Dustin’s house, ate pizza, drank beer while playing Polish horseshoes and Ladder ball. Before I left to let the women do whatever you do at a baby shower, I made sure the driveway was filled to capacity. For those of you keeping track at home that is a Subaru Legacy, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Subaru Outback, GMC Sierra, and a Scion tC. The fact that I was able to park this many vehicles in my driveway made me far more pleased than any man should be, about parked cars.

I was told the baby shower went well, and it was good to see Kathleen and Chris and the weekend went by way too fast. Gillian is now 35 weeks pregnant so our lives will be changing in big way sooner than later and all the gifts will be a huge help. Thank you to everyone who came out for Gillian party!

I’m Not Too Old To Mosh

A few weeks ago, May 26th to be exact, Korn, a Heavy Metal band from my high school/college days, was in town and a couple of guys from work and I went. In high school and college I was one of those guys who stood up front, jumped around, crowd surfed, moshed, and left there deaf and drenched in sweat. For years I thought that is how everyone watched concerts, more recently I realized there is this entire other group of people who go to concerts sit in the stands, enjoy the music and leave with their hearing intact and not covered in other peoples sweat. Korn is not the kind of band I could just sit in the stands and watch, so as we walked towards the event center I said out loud “I think I might be too old for this”. Well it turns out, I was wrong. I rocked out just like I was in college again and I didn’t feel like that weird old guy. I came home soaked and with my ears ringing, took a shower and went to bed, it was great.

The next morning on the other hand was a different story, my ears where still ringing, my head hurt, my neck hurt, my legs hurt and my voice was gone. I know I used to hurt in college after a concert but this was ridiculous my ears didn’t stop ringing for three days, so maybe I am too old to mosh.

R.I.P. Mercury, You will be missed…I guess

It was announced today that Ford will be discontinuing the Mercury branch at the end of this year, following in the footsteps of Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saturn. It is always sad to see a car brand fade into the history books, but in the case of Mercury it is more like finally throwing out the expired milk.

May…already?

So I have not updated this thing in a while so here is a shotgun approach to what has been going on.

Gillian is final starting to look pregnant, this makes me happy.

We took a trip out to Colorado to see Chris and Kathleen and Eppley and their new house. For the most part we just hung out and caught up, nothing to exciting, we are getting old I guess. For some reason I didn’t take many pictures. I wanted to take a picture of the Outback in its natural habitat…the Colorado Mountains, but never did for some reason, I did take this picture of children wearing gas masks though. It was great to see Chris and Kathleen, and their new house is beautiful, you will just have to trust me.

This last weekend was very baby focused, I mean more so than normal. Friday, a large packaged showed up, to our surprise it was a car seat and stroller from my Aunt Mary. I want to strap Nerf guns to either side, so it looks more like ED-209. Thank you Aunt Mary!! and for the record, yes that was a RoboCop reference. The rest of the weekend was one of our typical whirlwind trip to Lincoln/Omaha to visit all of our friends and family. Saturday, we drove to Lincoln, Gillian went to Sarah’s baby shower, I helped Santi pick up their new coffee table and then we had lunch and drank beer, it was good. After the shower, Gillian and I drove to Omaha to take pictures of Lyda going to prom, go out to dinner for mt sister’s birthday and help her assemble baby stuff and test my sister’s baby carriers, oh and I installed a new ceiling fan in my mom’s house. On Sunday Santi’s parent, who were in from Argentina, wanted to buy us “something for the baby”. We went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and picked out a glider, it is officially the nicest piece of furniture we own…Thank You, Juan and Maria!! We then had lunch to celebrate Mark and Lyda’s birthday.

I am sure there has been plenty more that I am forgetting, but since most the people who read this where probably there, I don’t feel that bad for leaving something out.

Family Wagon

Last week Gillian and I bought a new 2010 Subaru Outback. It makes us feel like adults, with a family vehicle. We needed a vehicle that could fit both of us, a car seat, the dog, pull a camper, and still be fun to drive. That last part is something most people just don’t really understand.

I turned 28 years old yesterday and honestly I nearly forgot about it. With being busy at work, my impending fatherdom and that the TCSHL payoff tournament the same day, I just wasn’t that worried about it. The tournament meant that I had to wake up at 7:45am…on my birthday, to drive to Kearney for a 9:30am game, since we lost that game we played again for 3rd place at 5pm that evening. Between those two games I drove back to GI for Barrett’s 1st birthday party, yes I went to someone else’s birthday party on my birthday. Barrett’s birthday is actually on th 24th, but Dustin and Jodi’s families were both in town for the weekend to celebrate. We sang “Happy Birthday”(they also sang to me) and Barrett destroyed his birthday cake. We got him this goofy Swedish designed toy, seen above on my head. This is where I realized I am starting to get old, I didn’t care that there wasn’t a party for me because I was so excited to see Barrett open his presents, “eat” cake, and inevitably pass out from exhaustion.

Now, just because I didn’t celebrate my birthday doesn’t mean everyone else forgot. I was amazed at all the happy birthday wishes I received. Joel sent a text at 8am, not sure why he was up, and hell, I even talked to Eliot…on the phone, that never happens! A few weeks ago I got a new camera, yes another camera, for my present from Gillian and the in-laws. I am sure there will be an official birthday party/night out but I have not planned anything yet, maybe some time in…umm… May?

Oh, and we did win 3rd place.

Nothing To Read Here

So I haven’t posted in a while and I feel like I should, but I don’t really have much to type about.

For those who don’t already know, Gillian is 19 weeks pregnant now. I would love to tell some story about our adventures in pre-parenthood, but I can’t. Gillian has been feeling fine, not sick, no crazy cravings, she has been tired but she was never much of a night owl anyway. It has all been very easy…on me, as she keeps reminding me. My only complaint is she is not showing very much. If she is pregnant I want her to look pregnant!

Umm, lets see…I’m really tired of all the snow and cold. My truck is still for sale, seriously buy my damn truck!

Gillian and I upgraded to new phones and a new phone plan so we can use all their features, the numbers are the same but now we can read our e-mail!

The furnace blower motor is off-balance, so it has been making a funny noise. I tried to fix it, but when I start taking the furnace apart Gillian gets nervous, so I stopped. I should really call the furnace guy.

After nearly a year of living next to an abandon house, we have new neighbors. They moved in last weekend, we have not yet met them, they drive a white Dodge Nitro.

So yea, nothing much to read here, carry on.
