Santiago Murtagh… American!

September 25, 2008

My good friend, and family member kind of, Santiago Murtagh became an American citizen on Tuesday September 23 at about 3pm.  Santi originally came to the U.S. from Argentina as a foreign exchange student and lived with Mark and Linda Cave, went to high school with Gillian, then on to college at UNL and married Sarah a little over four years ago.  That is why I say his is family kind of, Gillian has always referred to him as her brother, so I guess he is my brother-in-law.  Sarah has planed a Welcome to America Party for Oct 4th.  So lets all join in congratulating Santi on becoming a citizen, just in time to watch our economy fall apart!

Eliot posted this, I think it is fitting.

Linda took a few picture of the ceremony, I put them up of flickr

The following is the oath Santi swore to, courtesy of Linda;

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”

Chris and Kathleen’s Wedding

September 23, 2008
Last weekend was Chris and Kathleen’s wedding…it was awesome!
Gillian met Kathleen when she started in the Occupational Therapy program at Creighton University.  Gillian and Kathleen soon became good friends and luckily all four of us got along very well.  Kathleen and Chris are technically “High School Sweethearts” but they dated for seven years, so the general consensus is “it was about damn time”!
Gillian and I where both part of the wedding party, I always knew Gillian would be in Kathleen’s wedding but I was surprised and honored that Chris asked me to be one of his groom’s men.   We drove from G.I. to Denver on Thursday for the Bachelor Party, yes I wore the tuxedo t-shirt.  The weekend started on Friday with a “meet and greet”, then the wedding rehearsal, followed by the rehearsal dinner.  The wedding was on Saturday, a nice Catholic wedding followed by pictures, pictures, and more pictures.  The reception was back at the hotel, they had some of the greatest wedding food I have ever had!  On Sunday there was a breakfast buffet before heading back to Nebraska, Gillian bought a book for the ride.  All in all it was a great time and we are very happy to see those two get hitched…finally.

My photos of the wedding – Mostly blurry, sorry

So they know I’m there to party!

September 18, 2008

Kathleen and Chris’ wedding is this weekend. I “promised” Kathleen I would wear a tuxedo t-shirt for the joyous occasion, by the way I’m in the wedding. OK, so I am not wearing it to the wedding but I am wearing it to Chris’ bachelor party and I might have to cut the sleeves off before I get there.

2nd Round Draft Pick

September 15, 2008

The TCSHL had its draft last night.  I was hoping to be a first round pick, but I ended up being the first pick of the second round.  When I told Gillian, she told me I was a failure and not to come home…she loves me.

Home Alone

September 10, 2008

Gillian doesn’t come home from Kearney on Tuesdays.  She has a late class and an early class on Wednesday, so she stays with Sarah’s parents.  That means I have to feed myself dinner, so that means I make a frozen pizza and I don’t have to wear pants while I do it, damnit.  I always burn the roof of my mouth on Red Baron pizza for some reason. My tattoo itches like crazy, I hope that is a good thing.  Gillian did call to talk; apparently Physics is stupid, I beg to differ.  Oh, and I am tied of animals using the bathroom in my garage!  I noticed a puddle under the Falcon this morning, so I did what I always do when I see a puddle in the garage, stick my finger in it and smell it… yep, that’s cat piss!  Olive has peeped in the garage the last two nights, granted she was locked in there all night.

New Tattoo!

September 6, 2008
Yesterday I finally got the gear tattoo I have been meaning to get for 3 years. Gillian forced me to go in and make an appointment last week. I got my crossed hockey stick tattoo about 7 years ago at Villain’s in Omaha . I got the gear done at Smokin Joe’s Tattoo, here in Grand Island, I think they did a really great job. All the red marks around the gear are from the tape used to hold the bandage on. Yes, the tattoo is fine but tape gives me a rash!

2 Years

September 6, 2008

Yesterday was my two year anniversary working for Chief Automotive Technologies, as a Design Engineer. I am the companies first MyQC Quality Champion. MyQC is a new program the company started to try to improve the quality of our products. This poster was hanging up around work for a whole month, I also got a plaque. It is kind of like employee of the month, it is kind of BS. I dodge a bullet about 6 months ago, the company had layoffs and the other design engineer got axed. I am currently the only design engineer and after the last 6 months of not knowing if I am going to have a job tomorrow, I am finally designing some new products. Of course upper management wants a working prototype to show at NACE, in a month and a half and I just started drawing concepts…yea!

Hockey Time

September 5, 2008
I started playing ice hockey again last year(mid-season) after a two season hiatus.  Now it is that time again!  I had to order sock tape on-line, there isn’t a hockey store in town or in Kearney where I actually play.  The league I play in is the TCSHL.  I drive 40 miles each way, twice a weekto play this game that no one in Grand Island really understands.  Gillian loves it, because without hockey I’m kind of a dick during the winter.

eBay Blue Star

September 4, 2008
About three days ago my eBay feedback rating reached 50!  As most of you know, because I have been selling your stuff, I have been selling quite a bit over the last 8 months. I originally started selling old car parts so I could buy new car parts.  After selling my “project bike” for 3 times what I bought it for, I was hooked.  Now instead of being a means to pay for my hobby, eBay has turned into a hobby all it’s own and somewhat of a side job.  See what I am currently selling here.  If you want me to sell something just let me know.

First Husker Game of the Year

September 3, 2008
It is officially the start of the football season! In honor of the Huskers first game we put a red hoodie on Gordie…I guess.  He was not a fan!  Oh, Huskers 47  Western Michigan 24
