A Weekend To Remember
May 19, 2010Interesting Couple of Weeks
September 28, 2009It has been an interesting couple of weeks. There was the SL 500 parked at Wal-Mart, which just seems wrong to me. I keep scaring myself with my own hat and jacket at work. Then we got this crazy postcard in the mall. I mean really, mountains in Nebraska? I guess the dragon and the goat with seven laser eyes is also kind of odd. The good part is the “Pastor” put his picture on the back so I know if I see him, that he is crazy and I should be leaving.
We also had Olive knock the dog treats off the counter into her water bowl, destroying the bowl. Of course all she wants is her damn dinner! Then there is Gordie, who is so fixated on the ball he doesn’t realize he has a leaf stuck to his nose.
There is a bit of news too. Gillian has decided she wants to learn to play hockey…so I went on a shopping spree. I bought all her equipment without her actually being there, so I think I did a pretty damn good job, the breezers might be a little small but they will work. Gillian’s first game/practice is tonight! I think I am more excited then she is.
I haven’t heard anything about the eBay Motors Master Contest yet. I don’t think I won, the winner was supposed to be notified on Sept. 23 and it will be announced Oct. 1st.
Oh and one more thing, I just realized I have been doing this blog thing for over a year.
Deja vu
April 9, 2009
For the last year or so I have become increasingly more worried about my job security at Chief Automotive, not so much worried that I would get laid off but that the company would fold. So I quit, and took a position with Case New Holland, yes this is the company I worked for right out of college. I am now the Resident Design Engineer for the Crop Preparation Group at the Grand Island plant…basically I design haytools…these things. I am the “Resident” Design Engineer because I don’t actually work for the plant, I work for the design group in New Holland, PA. That means I am the only design engineer, for haytools, in the plant. My boss and all my co-workers are in Pennsylvania.
The plant still builds combines, haytools are kind of the red headed step child of the plant. The production line is stuck over in a corner and most people don’t really care too much about them, because they are not combines and I like it that way.
It is very odd being back, I left almost three years ago and I never thought I would come back. I left because I was a Manufacturing Engineer and I wanted to get into design and Chief Automotive offered me that. Now I am back as an “experienced” design engineer, a little hire up the food chain. The product, production line and the area of the building did not exist the last time I was at the plant, so everything is different but at the same time nothing has changed.
Fun Fact: Case New Holland is owned by The Fiat Group, so Ferrari is technicaly a sister company. Fiat is also in the middle of taking over Chrysler… maybe.

October 16, 2008Santiago Murtagh… American!
September 25, 2008My good friend, and family member kind of, Santiago Murtagh became an American citizen on Tuesday September 23 at about 3pm. Santi originally came to the U.S. from Argentina as a foreign exchange student and lived with Mark and Linda Cave, went to high school with Gillian, then on to college at UNL and married Sarah a little over four years ago. That is why I say his is family kind of, Gillian has always referred to him as her brother, so I guess he is my brother-in-law. Sarah has planed a Welcome to America Party for Oct 4th. So lets all join in congratulating Santi on becoming a citizen, just in time to watch our economy fall apart!
Eliot posted this, I think it is fitting.
Linda took a few picture of the ceremony, I put them up of flickr
The following is the oath Santi swore to, courtesy of Linda;
“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”
